SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2074

Commending Bishop John L. Harris, Sr.

Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, for 38 years, Bishop John L. Harris, Sr., has provided spiritual guidance and community leadership to the residents of Southside Richmond as pastor of Crusade for Christ Christian Church Ministries; and

WHEREAS, after answering the call to the ministry, John Harris studied at Thomas Road Bible Institute, Virginia State University, and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University; and

WHEREAS, John Harris assumed the pastorate of Crusade for Christ Christian Church Ministries when it was established in the late 1980s and has helped generations of community members grow in faith while enhancing the overall quality of life in the area through generous outreach programs; and

WHEREAS, John Harris has organized numerous community initiatives, including a youth camp and a food pantry established through a partnership with the hunger relief organization Feed More that has served countless families over the years; and

WHEREAS, the transformative leadership of John Harris has not only helped Crusade for Christ Christian Church Ministries become a beacon of fellowship for its congregation but strengthened the sense of community in Southside Richmond by providing hope and assistance to those in greatest need; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Bishop John L. Harris, Sr., hereby be commended for his 38 years of service as pastor of Crusade for Christ Christian Church Ministries; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bishop John L. Harris, Sr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his legacy of leadership and compassionate contributions to the Southside Richmond community.
