SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2072

Commending the Cave Spring High School girls' soccer team.

Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, the Cave Spring High School girls' soccer team won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship and was recognized by MaxPreps as the top high school girls' soccer team in the Commonwealth across all leagues and classifications; and

WHEREAS, the Cave Spring High School Knights defeated their hometown rival Hidden Valley High School 3–0 to claim their third consecutive Region 3D crown; and

WHEREAS, in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) quarterfinals, the Cave Spring High School Knights defeated Liberty Christian Academy 8–0, followed by a 2–0 victory in the semifinals over William Monroe High School; and

WHEREAS, the Cave Spring High School Knights secured the VHSL title with a dramatic victory over defending champion Western Albemarle High School at Emory & Henry University, prevailing 4–3 in a penalty kick shootout after a grueling 0–0 defensive battle through regulation and overtime; and

WHEREAS, the historic championship capped an extraordinary, unbeaten season during which the Cave Spring High School Knights posted a 23–0–1 record, recorded 12 consecutive shutouts to end the year, and allowed only three goals all season; and

WHEREAS, the Cave Spring High School Knights' first girls' soccer championship is a source of tremendous pride for the entire Roanoke community, embodying the highest values of teamwork; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, That the Cave Spring High School girls' soccer team hereby be commended on the occasion of its 2026 championship season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Cave Spring High School girls' soccer team as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's historic, undefeated achievement and dedication to excellence.
