SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2060

Commending the Western Albemarle High School boys' tennis team.

Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle High School boys' tennis team won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship at Liberty University on June 11, 2026; and

WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle High School Warriors defeated the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School Green Dragons of Richmond by a score of 5–0 to clinch the program's ninth consecutive state championship title; and

WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle Warriors' victory was a total team effort, led by its number one singles player, Gage Sturman, who won his match without surrendering a point, and its number two singles player, William Schundler, who finished his match without conceding a game; and

WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle Warriors also saw strong performances from Daniel Stewart, who won 6–4, 6–1; Jack McAllister, who won 6–3, 6–1; Ethan Marlowe, who won 6–0, 6–4; and Reid Keller, who was winning his match when the team claimed the state championship title with its fifth team point; and

WHEREAS, after losing back-to-back contests in April, the Western Albemarle Warriors found their form and went undefeated the remainder of the season; their reign of dominance continued in their run to a state championship, as they did not give up a single team point in their six postseason matches; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Western Albemarle Warriors are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Western Albemarle High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Western Albemarle High School boys' tennis team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ron Manilla, head coach of the Western Albemarle High School boys' tennis team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
