SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2077

Celebrating the life of Philo Duwain Dibble.



Agreed to by the Senate, June 29, 2026

WHEREAS, Philo Duwain Dibble, a business owner, public servant, volunteer, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather in Hanover County, died on May 31, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Philo Duwain “Wayne” Dibble's life was defined by his passion for servant leadership and commitment to enhancing the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Dibble proudly served the nation in uniform as a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, then returned to the Commonwealth and supported the Gordonsville community as a member of the Gordonsville Town Council and the Gordonsville Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Dibble made his career as a master carpenter, earning recognition in the industry and leaving a lasting mark on communities across Central Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic Region through the homes and businesses he built; he and his wife, Sue, also owned and operated Purvis and Associates, Inc., for more than 20 years; and

WHEREAS, after settling in Hanover County, Wayne and Sue Dibble continued to seek opportunities for volunteer leadership; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Dibble will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sue; his sons, Chris, Jesse, and Ben, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Philo Duwain Dibble; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Philo Duwain Dibble as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
