HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2200
Celebrating the life of Robert Stewart McAdams.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 29, 2026
WHEREAS, Robert Stewart McAdams, an esteemed resident of Charlottesville who inspired others through his dedication to advocacy and community engagement as president of the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, died on February 24, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Robert “Bob” Stewart McAdams grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began his career in community activism in response to the partial meltdown at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station; and
WHEREAS, after settling in Charlottesville, Bob McAdams strove to enhance local life as a leader in numerous civic organizations, including IMPACT of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, the Albemarle-Charlottesville Branch of the NAACP, Indivisible Charlottesville, and the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union; and
WHEREAS, as president of the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, Bob McAdams worked with members of the community and like-minded groups across the nation to advocate for nonviolent, collaborative solutions to local, national, and global issues; and
WHEREAS, Bob McAdams was also a member of the Vinegar Hill Toastmasters, a community-focused public speaking and leadership organization, and he enjoyed fellowship and worship with the congregation of Peace Lutheran Church; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his former wife and the mother of his children, Ruth, Bob McAdams will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Rob, Heather, and James, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Stewart McAdams, a highly admired community leader in Charlottesville; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Stewart McAdams as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
