HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2178

Celebrating the life of James Bryan Carlson.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, James Bryan Carlson, a beloved member of the Westover Hills neighborhood in Richmond, died on November 15, 2025; and

WHEREAS, an active leader in his community, Bryan Carlson served as a former president and current vice president of the Westover Hills Neighborhood Association; he and his husband, Mark, were well known as impeccable hosts whose home resonated with music, laughter, good food, and warmth; and

WHEREAS, Bryan Carlson supported others through his ability to provide a sympathetic ear and provide wise counsel that was always free of judgment, becoming an unofficial therapist to many friends and loved ones; and

WHEREAS, Bryan Carlson never ceased to find beauty in everyday life and brought further joy to others through his passion for music, art, and gardening; and

WHEREAS, Bryan Carlson was also an accomplished world traveler who had visited multiple countries in Europe, Asia, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean and relished every opportunity to explore new cultures; and

WHEREAS, Bryan Carlson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his husband, Mark, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Bryan Carlson, who touched many lives in the Richmond community through his wisdom, kindness, and generosity; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Bryan Carlson as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
