HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2166

Commending Alfred Van Huyck.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, Alfred Van Huyck, an esteemed professional planner, has greatly served the Loudoun County community for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Van Huyck holds a master's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of North Carolina and had a successful career in national and international planning that spanned more than four decades; and

WHEREAS, in retirement, Alfred Van Huyck has supported Loudoun County and its residents through his involvement with a number of local citizens' groups, heritage and environmental organizations, and government panels, including the Loudoun County Preservation and Conservation Coalition, which he co-founded; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Van Huyck has been a steadfast advocate for responsible planning to enhance the quality of life for Loudoun County residents and to ensure the county's long-term financial sustainability; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Van Huyck's achievements in service to Loudoun County include drafting a new general plan for the county in 2001 while serving as chair of its planning commission; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Van Huyck's efforts have helped Loudoun County grow and prosper while retaining its rural character and charm and preserving its unique scenic and historic assets; and

WHEREAS, through his leadership, dedication, and service, Alfred Van Huyck has helped to make Loudoun County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Alfred Van Huyck hereby be commended for his legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alfred Van Huyck as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Loudoun County and the Commonwealth.
