HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2161
Commending Patrick's Hardware.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, Patrick's Hardware, a trusted, family-owned hardware store offering a wide range of products and services for commercial and residential customers and one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Hampton, celebrated its 130th anniversary of service to the community in 2025; and
WHEREAS, Patrick's Hardware was established in 1895 by W.T. Patrick as a general store on the corner of Queen Street and Back River Road in Hampton; in the 1930s, his sons, Cary E. Patrick and A. Woodfin Patrick, joined the business, which then became known as W.T. Patrick and Sons; and
WHEREAS, over the years, W.T. Patrick and Sons began to focus its business primarily on hardware and rebranded as Patrick's Hardware; and
WHEREAS, A. Woodfin Patrick, Jr., joined Patrick's Hardware in 1947, followed by Cary E. Patrick, Jr., in 1976, both of whom represented the third generation of the Patrick family to serve the business; and
WHEREAS, Patrick's Hardware is currently owned and operated by Cary Patrick's sons, Ryan Patrick and Cary Patrick III, who have upheld the family's longstanding commitment to exceptional customer service; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Patrick's Hardware has expanded to include lawn and garden products, as well as marine and boating accessories; to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the business in 1995, the Patrick family also opened Patrick's Glass, which offers custom glass services; and
WHEREAS, Patrick's Hardware remains a trusted local institution in Hampton, and its reputation for integrity and commitment to excellence has attracted customers from as far away as Richmond and Outer Banks, North Carolina; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Patrick's Hardware hereby be commended on the occasion of its 130th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patrick's Hardware as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the store's contributions to the vibrant economy in Hampton and service to generations of customers.
