HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2157
Commending the Patrick Henry High School baseball team.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry High School baseball team of Glade Spring won the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship at Kiwanis Park in Salem on June 13, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry High School Rebels defeated the Rappahannock High School Raiders of Warsaw by a score of 4–1 to bring home the program's first state championship; and
WHEREAS, after going 11–12 the previous season, the Patrick Henry Rebels found their form, posting an impressive 25–2 record for the year and closing with 19 consecutive victories; and
WHEREAS, in the state championship game, the Patrick Henry Rebels trailed 1–0 in the top of the fifth inning when Hank Rutherford hit a two-out double that brought in two runs and gave the team the lead; and
WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry Rebels escaped the fifth inning with a clutch 6–4–3 double play, then tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning with Aidan Monahan's home run and Hunter White's RBI groundout; and
WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry Rebels were led on the mound in the contest by Kolby Hicks, who struck out five batters and gave up only five hits and a walk over six and one-third innings pitched, and Aidan Monahan, who recorded the final two outs for the save; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Patrick Henry Rebels are the result of the teamwork and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of the entire Patrick Henry High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Patrick Henry High School baseball team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eric Rutherford, coach of the Patrick Henry High School baseball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
