HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2137
Celebrating the life of James D. Corprew.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, James D. Corprew, an honorable veteran, esteemed merchant seaman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and cherished member of the Norfolk community, died on June 1, 2026; and
WHEREAS, James Corprew, affectionately known by family and friends as “Rock,” graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk before serving his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, after concluding his service, James Corprew worked tirelessly as a merchant seaman for more than 20 years through several different unions and ultimately finished his career with the Seafarers International Union in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, James Corprew enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a devoted usher; and
WHEREAS, James Corprew will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Norma; his children, Talida, Dominica, Norma, and Corey, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of James D. Corprew, a treasured member of the Norfolk community whose legacy of faith, love, and service will forever inspire all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James D. Corprew as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
