HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2133
Celebrating the life of Daphne Rena Kenon.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, Daphne Rena Kenon, a vibrant member of her community in Hampton Roads who touched countless lives through her commitment to serving and supporting young people and her dedication to her fellow members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., died on May 9, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Daphne Kenon grew up in Norfolk and graduated from Norview High School before earning a bachelor's degree from Virginia State University, where she met the love of her life, Edward Kenon, and was initiated into the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alpha Eta Chapter; and
WHEREAS, Daphne Kenon was a trusted mentor to her fellow members of Alpha Eta Chapter, who guided others with wisdom, love and integrity; she subsequently joined the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter and had a lasting impact on the region; and
WHEREAS, as the 15th president of the Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter from 2019 to 2021, Daphne Kenon guided the chapter through the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating visionary leadership, genuine compassion, and unwavering dedication to the chapter's mission; and
WHEREAS, in her professional career, Daphne Kenon served the Commonwealth as an employee of the Division of Child Support Enforcement, working as a court specialist and a scrum master until her retirement in 2025; and
WHEREAS, in later life, Daphne Kenon also served and inspired young people as a substitute teacher at public schools in Norfolk and Chesapeake; and
WHEREAS, guided by her unwavering faith in all her actions, Daphne Kenon was a devoted, longtime member of Calvary Revival Church, where she provided her leadership to several church committees and ministries; and
WHEREAS, Daphne Kenon will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her best friend and husband of 40 years, Edward; her beloved son, Christopher; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Daphne Rena Kenon, who touched countless lives in Hampton Roads through her compassion, determination, and commitment to excellence in all her endeavors; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Daphne Rena Kenon as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
