HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2117

Commending the Northern Virginia Chorale.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, for 50 seasons, the Northern Virginia Chorale has enriched the cultural life of the Commonwealth and elevated the performing arts in the region by presenting distinguished choral music from a variety of genres; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Chorale was founded by the Reverend Jack and Marianne Martin in 1975 and greatly expanded its programs and rich variety of musical selections under the leadership of Robert S. Webb, Jr., who served as artistic director from 1982 to 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Chorale traditionally presents three major performances each season, including its Holiday Concert in December, Masterworks Concert in March, and Spring Concert in May, offering audiences throughout Northern Virginia opportunities to experience live choral music; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Chorale has also performed at venues throughout the Washington, D.C., region, including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Washington National Cathedral, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and other notable cultural institutions throughout the metropolitan area; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Chorale strengthens international cultural ties through exchange programs and partnerships with composers and other vocal ensembles across Europe, performing at venues in England, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Bulgaria; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Chorale has also demonstrated a longstanding commitment to community engagement through outreach programs that have brought music and artistic enrichment to retirement communities, nursing homes, schools, businesses, and civic events; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, the Northern Virginia Chorale has fostered a deep appreciation for choral music by presenting thoughtfully curated performances that showcase both classical masterworks and contemporary compositions, earning a reputation for artistic excellence and high-quality musical programming; and

WHEREAS, through five decades of artistic excellence, educational outreach, and community service, the Northern Virginia Chorale has inspired audiences, supported the performing arts, and enhanced the cultural vitality of Northern Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Northern Virginia Chorale hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th performing season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Northern Virginia Chorale as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's work to advance the performing arts and its contributions to cultural life in Northern Virginia.
