HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2116
Celebrating the life of Melvin Lester Whitfield, Sr.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, Melvin Lester Whitfield, Sr., a devout and hardworking member of the Suffolk community, died on February 8, 2026; and
WHEREAS, a native of Suffolk, Melvin Whitfield spent most of his career as a truck driver and ultimately established his own business, M&L Whitfield Trucking Company, in 1998; and
WHEREAS, after his retirement from the trucking industry, Melvin Whitfield worked at Edwards Farm and Faulk Farm in Buckhorn; he was an avid outdoorsman who formed many lifelong friendships as a longtime member of Deer Path Hunt Club; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Whitfield began his journey in faith at Olive Branch Baptist Church, and in later life, he enjoyed fellowship and worship with the Buckhorn community at Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member of the male choir, senior choir, combined choir, and usher ministry; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Whitfield will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Lisa; his children, Barbara, Melvin, Jr., Stevie, Evelyn, Valorie, Brian, and Robert, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Melvin Lester Whitfield, Sr., a business owner and active member of his community in Suffolk; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Melvin Lester Whitfield, Sr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
