HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2110

Commending the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, for 60 years, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company in Loudoun County has safeguarded the lives and property of Sterling residents, played a vital role in local community life, and provided outstanding service to other localities throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, originally known as the Sterling Park Volunteer Fire Company, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company was chartered on August 16, 1966, at a time when the Sterling community was made up of only a few homes and businesses; and

WHEREAS, in its early days, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company stored its equipment in a barn on West Holly Avenue, then ultimately moved to one of its current fire stations on Commerce Street; and

WHEREAS, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company shared the station with the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad, and when both companies opened a second station in Sugarland, they became the first volunteer public safety organizations in Loudoun County to operate from more than one station; and

WHEREAS, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company and Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad made county history again when they opened a third station in Kincora; and

WHEREAS, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company currently operates from all three stations, covering a 25-square-mile service area, which includes the communities of Sterling, Great Falls Forest, Broad Run Farms, Countryside, Sugarland Area, Cascades, and Kincora; and

WHEREAS, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company responds to approximately 5,000 calls for service every year and maintains mutual aid agreements with Washington Dulles International Airport and Fairfax County to support other first responders in the region; and

WHEREAS, in 2001, members of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company deployed to the Pentagon and New York City in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks, and in 2005, members of the company traveled to New Orleans to assist with the response to Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, the highly trained members of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company represent a wide range of occupations and backgrounds but are united by their commitment to increasing fire safety throughout Loudoun County and strengthening the community as a whole; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company hereby be commended on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's legacy of contributions to public safety and service to the residents of Sterling and surrounding communities.
