HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2085
Commending the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, for 75 years, the members of the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., have come together to develop programs and initiatives that uplift and inspire individuals and promote the health and well-being of communities; and
WHEREAS, since it was chartered in 1951, the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been led by a distinguished line of 27 chapter presidents while growing to include more than 300 members; and
WHEREAS, the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is steadfastly committed to the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of the national organization, which places an emphasis on educational development, economic development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement; and
WHEREAS, from funding a schoolhouse in Africa and water wells in Haiti and Kenya to spearheading coat and school supply drives and partnering with the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank, the members of the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority have given generously of their time and resources to support communities both locally and abroad; and
WHEREAS, the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has helped many young people achieve their dreams by annually distributing scholarships to graduating high school students and by implementing youth activities and signature programs such as Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, and EMBODI; and
WHEREAS, through its Delta Dash 5K race, wellness workshops, and other health-conscious endeavors, the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority encourages individuals and families to embrace self-care and to grow and thrive; and
WHEREAS, the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority nurtures civic engagement through voter registration efforts and by regularly hosting political forums that enable members of the community to connect with their elected representatives; and
WHEREAS, guided by the principles of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action, the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., hereby be commended on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to Hampton and the Commonwealth.
