Celebrating the life of Paul B. Ebert.

WHEREAS, Paul B. Ebert, an esteemed member of the Northern Virginia legal community and the longest-serving Commonwealth's Attorney in Virginia history, died on June 23, 2026; and

WHEREAS, after receiving a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a law degree from the George Washington University Law School, Paul Ebert practiced law from 1963 to 1980, then worked as a justice of the peace for the City of Falls Church and served as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ebert was elected as the Commonwealth's Attorney for Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park in 1967, becoming the youngest person to hold the office at the age of 30; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ebert was highly admired for his commitment to balancing fairness in the justice system with public safety and presided over numerous high-profile cases that garnered national attention, including the capital murder case involving John Allen Muhammad and the domestic violence case involving John and Lorena Bobbitt; and

WHEREAS, upon winning election to his 13th term as Commonwealth's Attorney in 2015, Paul Ebert became the oldest individual to hold the office, and at the time of his retirement in 2019, he was the longest-serving Commonwealth's Attorney statewide; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Paul Ebert served the Commonwealth with the utmost integrity, dedication, and distinction, earning bipartisan support from local and state officials for his legal acumen and commitment to excellence; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Priscilla, Paul Ebert will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his three children and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Paul B. Ebert, a distinguished constitutional officer in Northern Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Paul B. Ebert as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
