HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2081

Commending Cova Brewing Company.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, Cova Brewing Company, an independent craft beer brewery in Norfolk, won its third gold medal for the gose-style beer, Aloha State of Mind, at the 2026 World Beer Cup, the most competitive and prestigious beer competition in the world; and

WHEREAS, the World Beer Cup, organized by the Brewers Association, has promoted the achievements of independent craft beer breweries around the world for 30 years; Cova Brewing Company's Aloha State of Mind was one of 8,166 entries from 1,644 breweries and one of only four beers from the Commonwealth to earn a gold medal in 2026; and

WHEREAS, Cova Brewing Company previously won gold medals for Aloha State of Mind at the 2022 and 2023 World Beer Cups; and

WHEREAS, Cova Brewing Company has also been recognized as the 2026 Small Business of the Year by the City of Norfolk and received the Innovative Green Project Award from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for its work to minimize wastewater, prevent chemical and cleaning agent discharge, implement energy and water conservation initiatives, capture and reuse carbon dioxide gases, and protect the Chesapeake Bay; and

WHEREAS, since its establishment in 2020, Cova Brewing Company has developed numerous local partnerships and formed lasting relationships with other members of Norfolk's Ocean View community; and

WHEREAS, Cova Brewing Company leverages its position as a business leader to give back to people in need and support local organizations, such as ForKids, the Salvation Army, Ales for ALS, SEALKIDS, Hampton Roads Pride, and the SPCA; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Cova Brewing Company engages with the Ocean View Business Association, the Ocean View Alliance, the Coastal Virginia Brewery Alliance, and other local civic leagues to further support the small business community and enhance the quality of life in Norfolk; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Cova Brewing Company hereby be commended on winning a gold medal for its gose-style beer, Aloha State of Mind, at the 2026 World Beer Cup; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Cova Brewing Company as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the company's contributions to the Commonwealth's craft beer industry and overall commitment to excellence.
