Celebrating the life of Benjamin Andrew Burrell.

WHEREAS, Benjamin Andrew Burrell, a veteran, business owner, athlete, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, in Prince William County, died on August 22, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Andrew “Andy” Burrell grew up in Alexandria and played varsity football, basketball, and baseball as a student at Groveton High School, now known as West Potomac High School; and

WHEREAS, Andy Burrell enrolled in the United States Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps program while attending the University of Richmond and received his commission as a second lieutenant upon graduation in 1971, then was assigned to the headquarters of what was then known as the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Andy Burrell continued his education and service to the nation when he received a master's degree in criminology from Virginia Commonwealth University and joined the United States Army Reserve, functioning as the criminal investigation supervisor of the 260th Military Police Command; and

WHEREAS, Andy Burrell and his wife of 48 years, Kathleen Burrell, made their home in Woodbridge, where they raised their family and were active members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Andy Burrell was his daughter Sarah's biggest fan, always supporting her at dance competitions and celebrating her academic achievements, and he was a trusted mentor to many of her friends; and

WHEREAS, Andy Burrell owned and operated a collection agency for 45 years, retiring in 2021; he was highly respected in the field, serving three terms as the president of the Virginia Collector's Association and representing the Commonwealth at the American Collectors Association; and

WHEREAS, Andy Burrell will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Kathleen; his daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Frank; two grandchildren, Halloran and Harrison; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Benjamin Andrew Burrell; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Benjamin Andrew Burrell as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
