SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2042
Commending Chiles Family Orchards.
Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards in Crozet set a Guinness World Record for the heaviest peach, which was verified on September 10, 2025, with a peach weighing 828.5 grams, or approximately one pound, 13 ounces; and
WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards, which has been in operation for over a century, first as a commercial production and later as a collective of “pick your own” ventures, is led today by owner and fifth-generation grower Henry Chiles; and
WHEREAS, by offering the community local, fresh produce and an opportunity to engage with the horticultural process, Chiles Family Orchards has become a beloved institution in the Greater Charlottesville community; and
WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards' world's heaviest peach was the product of an unusual early April frost, which left fewer fruit for each tree to support, and a wet spring and early summer, which helped generate exceptionally large fruit; and
WHEREAS, Chiles Family Orchards is producing a replica of its world-record-setting fruit to display at its orchards, giving patrons the opportunity to appreciate and celebrate this extraordinary agricultural feat; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Chiles Family Orchards hereby be commended for setting the Guinness World Record for heaviest peach; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Henry Chiles, owner of Chiles Family Orchards, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the farm's achievement and best wishes for its continued success.
