Commending Kathryn Thweatt Alferio.
Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026
WHEREAS, Kathryn Thweatt Alferio, president and chief executive officer of the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, who has made vital contributions to the Henrico County art scene over the past two decades, will retire in January 2027; and
WHEREAS, Kathryn âKâ Alferio joined the Cultural Arts Center in 2009, bringing a wealth of experience from her years as board chair of the International Festivals & Events Association, executive director of CITYCELEBRATIONS, global events director of Genworth Financial, and president of The Alferio Group; and
WHEREAS, as president and chief executive officer of the Cultural Arts Center, K Alferio spearheaded a multifaceted institution dedicated to hosting performances, exhibits, and outreach and educational programming to inspire creativity and encourage the community's engagement with culture and the arts; and
WHEREAS, under K Alferio's leadership, the Cultural Arts Center developed new performance series, established outreach programs for youth, including art classes in youth detention centers, and created a highly acclaimed arts program serving individuals with dementia and their caregivers; and
WHEREAS, the Henrico County community has benefited from many transformative and memorable arts experiences as a result of K Alferio's efforts to make the Cultural Arts Center an art institution that is inclusive, educational, and supportive of both artists and audiences alike; and
WHEREAS, K Alferio has bolstered the success of the Cultural Arts Center through meaningful community partnerships and by garnering the steadfast support of Henrico County's leaders; and
WHEREAS, over the past 18 years, K Alferio has exemplified what can be achieved through effective arts advocacy and has helped to make Henrico County a wonderful place to live, work, and appreciate the arts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Kathryn Thweatt Alferio, president and chief executive officer of the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kathryn Thweatt Alferio as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's high regard for her exemplary service and best wishes upon her retirement.
