SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2031

Commending Noreen Turyn.



Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, Noreen Turyn, an acclaimed television journalist who is the senior anchor and managing editor at ABC 13 WSET in Lynchburg, is retiring in 2026; and

WHEREAS, Noreen Turyn began her illustrious journalism career at WJLA in Washington, D.C., and she worked for some time as an assignment editor at WMAR in Baltimore before moving to Lynchburg to take a position as a reporter in 1990; and

WHEREAS, for 36 years, Noreen Turyn has been an integral member of the staff at ABC 13 WSET, working tirelessly to deliver meaningful and informative programming to the residents of Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, throughout her tenure at ABC 13 WSET, Noreen Turyn has held the newsroom to a high standard of excellence while being a generous and supportive mentor to her fellow journalists and producers; and

WHEREAS, Noreen Turyn has received many awards in recognition of her exemplary work, including a regional Emmy Award and an award from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters for her 2022 production, “What Happened to Johnny?”; and

WHEREAS, Noreen Turyn has demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the community as she has provided an invaluable service to the residents of Lynchburg through her work with ABC 13 WSET; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Noreen Turyn hereby be commended for her remarkable career in journalism on the occasion of her retirement from ABC 13 WSET; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Noreen Turyn as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her contributions to Lynchburg and the Commonwealth and best wishes upon her retirement.
