SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2019

Celebrating the life of Albert Davis Bugg, Jr.



Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026

WHEREAS, Albert Davis Bugg, Jr., an esteemed attorney and an active member of the Edwardsville community in the Northern Neck, died on April 5, 2026; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Albert Davis “Dave” Bugg graduated from the Christchurch School, a boarding school in Middlesex County, then earned a bachelor's degree from Davidson College in 1971 and a law degree from the University of Richmond in 1975; and

WHEREAS, in 1982, Dave Bugg relocated to the Northern Neck, where he had enjoyed many summers as a child, and built a log cabin in Edwardsville; he was passionate about sharing adventures with family members and friends on the Potomac River and running the local marshes on his antique Whirlwind wooden boat; and

WHEREAS, Dave Bugg's distinguished legal career spanned 50 years, beginning as a partner at Sands Anderson in Richmond; after moving to the Northern Neck, he worked for Dunton, Simmons & Dunton in White Stone, then helped form Rumsey, Breeden, Hubbard, Bugg & Terry and Rumsey & Bugg in Irvington, where he practiced with his son, Albert; and

WHEREAS, Dave Bugg specialized in civil litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, and was well-known in the local legal community, serving as the president of the Northern Neck Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Dave Bugg enjoyed fellowship and worship with the congregation of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the vestry and a senior warden, and later joined Wicomico Parish Church; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by one daughter, Virginia, Dave Bugg will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his best friend and wife of 51 years, Margaret; his children, Albert and Patricia, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Albert Davis Bugg, Jr., a respected attorney and highly admired resident of the Northern Neck; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Albert Davis Bugg, Jr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
