Commending Wyatt Shields.

WHEREAS, Wyatt Shields, an esteemed civil servant and city manager of the City of Falls Church, who has greatly served the locality for 23 years, will retire on September 4, 2026; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, Wyatt Shields began his career on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and worked in Dominion Energy's Office of Government Relations before entering local government as the town administrator of the Town of Scottsville; and
WHEREAS, Wyatt Shields joined the City of Falls Church as assistant city manager in 2003, then briefly served as acting city manager following the death of city manager Daniel E. McKeever before he was formally named city manager in January 2007; and
WHEREAS, in his role as city manager, Wyatt Shields oversees the operations and administration of the City of Falls Church, while working with the Falls Church City Council and other local partners to ensure the locality's growth and success; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Wyatt Shields advanced a number of initiatives to bolster Falls Church's financial position, foster economic development, improve critical infrastructure, and guarantee the timely and effective provision of government services; and
WHEREAS, Wyatt Shields made an impact regionally through his service as a member and chair of the Northern Virginia Chief Administrative Officers Group and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Chief Administrative Officers Committee; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his exemplary efforts, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Institute for Regional Excellence presented Wyatt Shields with its Visionary Leadership Award in 2015; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the community he served, Wyatt Shields has helped to make Falls Church a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Wyatt Shields hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as city manager of the City of Falls Church; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wyatt Shields as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his contributions to Falls Church and the Commonwealth and best wishes in his future endeavors.
