Commending the Nelson County High School girls' soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Nelson County High School girls' soccer team won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship at Salem High School on June 13, 2026; and

WHEREAS, the Nelson County High School Lady Governors defeated the Glenvar High School Highlanders to bring home the program's first state championship title and finish the season undefeated; and

WHEREAS, after 100 minutes of action, the match remained tied 0–0 and went to a penalty shootout; then, with the Nelson County Lady Governors holding a 3–2 advantage, their goalkeeper Piper Kelly made a clutch save to hold the lead and claim victory; and

WHEREAS, many of the Nelson County Lady Governors have played together from a young age, forming a close and cohesive bond that made them unstoppable as they matured as a team; and

WHEREAS, the Nelson County Lady Governors' historic triumph is the result of the student-athletes' teamwork and dedication, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Nelson County High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Nelson County High School girls' soccer team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bryan Ferren, head coach of the Nelson County High School girls' soccer team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
