Celebrating the life of Robert Avery Peay, Jr.

WHEREAS, Robert Avery Peay, Jr., a talented student-athlete and a beloved son, brother, and friend in Richmond, died on May 9, 2026; and
WHEREAS, born in Richmond to Robert and Elizabeth Peay, Avery Peay was a student at St. Christopher's School, where he was a multi-sport athlete who played as quarterback on the varsity football team and pitcher on the varsity baseball team, despite only being in his freshman year at the school; and
WHEREAS, Avery Peay had previously played baseball in Richmond Little League, leading one team to a state tournament and another to the regional tournament; he was also a member of the Richmond Baseball Academy West Seminoles and had been invited to play on a national showcase team for Artillery Baseball; and
WHEREAS, Avery Peay developed a larger-than-life following among his teammates and classmates for his athletic prowess, earning the nicknames “Big A,” “A-Dot,” and “Big Arm Bobby”; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his athletic pursuits, Avery Peay loved spending time in the great outdoors and had recently earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 444, demonstrating his commitment to leadership and the pursuit of excellence; and
WHEREAS, Avery Peay enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where he served the congregation as an usher and an acolyte; and
WHEREAS, Avery Peay will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth; his siblings, Emma and Gordon; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Avery Peay, Jr., who touched many lives in the Richmond area through his kindness, commitment to community service, and achievements as a student-athlete; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Avery Peay, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
