Commending David L. Moore, Sr.

WHEREAS, David L. Moore, Sr., an educator, public servant, and volunteer leader in Charlotte County, celebrates his 100th birthday in 2026; and
WHEREAS, born on July 13, 1926, David Moore has witnessed countless historical events over the course of his life, from the Great Depression and World War II to the Moon landing and the rise of modern technology in a new millennium; and
WHEREAS, David Moore served the nation in uniform as a member of the United States Army, then became an active community leader in Charlotte County; he served as a teacher and principal in Charlotte County Public Schools, a member of the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors, and a volunteer public safety professional; and
WHEREAS, David Moore was part of a dedicated generation of midcentury educators who bridged the gap between segregated and integrated school systems; he played a major role in the racial integration of Charlotte County Public Schools and Campbell County Public Schools, which was achieved in a relatively peaceful manner, unlike some other school divisions in the region; and
WHEREAS, David Moore has volunteered his time and expertise to support numerous other organizations in the area, including Jeffress Funeral Home, where he served as a funeral attendant, supporting local families during their time of need; he currently volunteers with Meals on Wheels and assists at the Charlotte County Recycling Facility; and
WHEREAS, David Moore has also provided his leadership to Crossroads Community Services Board, the NAACP, Piedmont Senior Resources, Inc., Charlotte County Christmas Parents, Inc., and the Virginia Pork Council; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his life, David Moore has been a member of multiple church congregations, especially Saint Andrews Baptist Church in Cullen, where he serves as a life member and deacon; and
WHEREAS, David Moore has inspired family members, friends, and generations of Charlotte County residents through his positivity, commitment to service, kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That David L. Moore, Sr., hereby be commended on the occasion of his 100th birthday in 2026; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David L. Moore, Sr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his personal and professional achievements and legacy of service to the Charlotte County community.
