Commending the Matoaca High School softball team.

WHEREAS, the Matoaca High School softball team won their first Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship in June 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Matoaca High School Warriors defeated the Lightridge High School Lightning by a score of 2–1 in a contest that began as a tense duel between the teams' outstanding pitchers, both of whom have committed to National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I schools; and
WHEREAS, Matoaca High School's Kaylee Hodges, a two-time Virginia Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, was perfect through more than five innings and finished the game allowing only one hit and no walks, while striking out 10 batters; and
WHEREAS, although the Lightridge Lightning scored first in the top of the sixth inning, the Matoaca Warriors responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a walk-off victory and finish the season with a 26–1 record; and
WHEREAS, the successful season was a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the unwavering support of the entire Matoaca High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Matoaca High School softball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scott Driskill, head coach of the Matoaca High School softball team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
