WHEREAS, Tarun Mehta, a devoted husband, loving father, accomplished attorney, and cherished member of his community who lived a life marked by kindness, integrity, and service, died on May 31, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of professional excellence and unwavering dedication to his family; and
WHEREAS, Tarun Mehta grew up in Brampton, a vibrant suburb of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, where he developed the values, character, and intellectual curiosity that would guide him throughout his life and career; and
WHEREAS, Tarun Mehta shared a remarkable love story with his wife, the Honorable Leslie Mehta, which began while both were attending the Howard University School of Law and grew into a partnership rooted in mutual respect, shared purpose, and enduring love; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his distinguished legal career, Tarun Mehta practiced law in jurisdictions across the United States, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his professionalism, wisdom, and commitment to justice; and
WHEREAS, in the most recent chapter of his career, Tarun Mehta served as an attorney with CarMax, Inc., where he brought his legal expertise, sound judgment, and collaborative spirit to his work and to those with whom he served; and
WHEREAS, as a devoted partner, Tarun Mehta steadfastly supported his wife throughout her legal and public service career, offering encouragement, wisdom, and strength as she answered the call to serve the Commonwealth and her constituents; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong learner and thoughtful individual, Tarun Mehta enjoyed reading and writing and appreciated the opportunity to explore new ideas and perspectives through those pursuits; and
WHEREAS, above all else, Tarun Mehta treasured time spent with family, finding his greatest joy in the company of those he loved and in the role of husband and father; and
WHEREAS, Tarun Mehta was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Brooke, whose memory remained forever in his heart; and
WHEREAS, Tarun Mehta leaves to cherish in his memory, his devoted wife, Leslie; their beloved daughter, Blair; and numerous extended family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones who were blessed to know him; and
WHEREAS, through his compassion, professional accomplishments, steadfast character, and deep love for his family, Tarun Mehta touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Tarun Mehta who inspired others through his character, accomplishments, and devotion to his family and community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Tarun Mehta as an expression of the House of Delegates' heartfelt condolences and respect for his memory.
