Commending Dana G. Schrad.

WHEREAS, Dana G. Schrad, who has supported law enforcement in the Commonwealth for the past 30 years as executive director of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, retires in April 2026; and
WHEREAS, Dana Schrad earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and worked for several years in television journalism, including as a police beat reporter, before obtaining a juris doctor degree from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1988 and serving as a staff attorney on the Virginia State Crime Commission from 1989 to 1996; and
WHEREAS, since January 1996, Dana Schrad has led the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP), an organization of federal, state, and local police chiefs and other law-enforcement executives who are dedicated to enhancing the professionalism of police agencies in the Commonwealth through advocacy, training, and leadership education programs; and
WHEREAS, in addition to overseeing VACP's strategy, operations, and finances, Dana Schrad has helped to expand and elevate executive-level training and professional development while also nurturing interagency cooperation and serving as a voice for law-enforcement leaders across the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Dana Schrad has made an impact through her involvement with various legislative work groups and state-level advisory committees and boards examining criminal justice and public safety policy, including the Virginia Board of Juvenile Justice, which she served as chair; and
WHEREAS, as an instructor who has taught criminal justice courses at Bluefield University and led numerous training programs and conferences on behalf of VACP and other organizations, Dana Schrad has prepared countless law-enforcement professionals for meaningful careers in service to the community; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her efforts and exemplary service, Dana Schrad was presented the 2021 VACP Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement alongside VACP President Maggie DeBoard, as well as the 2012 VACP President's Award from VACP President Rick Clark; and
WHEREAS, through her unwavering commitment to the law-enforcement leaders and agencies who ensure the safety and well-being of the Commonwealth's communities, Dana Schrad has earned the respect and recognition of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Dana G. Schrad hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as executive director of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dana G. Schrad as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes upon her retirement.
