Commending Steven Marks, M.D.

WHEREAS, in 2026, Steven Marks, M.D., completed a two-year term as president and board chair of Jewish Peninsula, the culmination of more than a decade of service to the organization and work to strengthen the Jewish community in the region; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Duke University and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Steven “Steve” Marks completed his residency in general surgery and urology at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, then chose the Virginia Peninsula as the place to build his medical career, raise his family, and serve the community; and
WHEREAS, after establishing a urology practice in Newport News, Steve Marks spent 30 years caring for patients throughout the region; he subsequently worked as a traveling physician for eight years, providing urologic care in hospitals and clinics in rural and underserved communities across Virginia, North Carolina, and Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, since joining Jewish Peninsula in 2012, Steve Marks has held a wide range of leadership positions, including his recent term as president and board chair, in which capacity he led strategic planning initiatives, governance reforms, and financial stewardship efforts and implemented programs designed to strengthen Jewish life in the region for future generations; and
WHEREAS, throughout his life, Steve Marks has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to service, leadership, education, promotion of the arts, and community building, and his legacy of excellence in all his endeavors has greatly enhanced the quality of life on the Virginia Peninsula; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Steven Marks, M.D., hereby be commended for his outstanding service as president and board chair of Jewish Peninsula; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Steven Marks, M.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Virginians as a physician and community leader.
