Celebrating the life of Devon Jamye Thomas.

WHEREAS, Devon Jamye Thomas, a renowned barber, beloved son, brother, and grandson, and cherished member of the Hopewell community, died May 18, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Devon “DJ” Jamye Thomas graduated from Hopewell High School before attending Paul Mitchell Cosmetology and Beauty School in Florida, where he developed haircutting skills that would propel his career as a barber; and
WHEREAS, DJ Thomas cultivated his talents and interests to enhance his ability to make an impact, completing training as an electrical technician at the former John Tyler Community College and studying cyber security through a number of courses; and
WHEREAS, DJ Thomas recently opened his own barbershop, Premium Cutz, where he worked tirelessly to foster a sense of community while treating his customers to world-class haircuts at affordable prices; and
WHEREAS, DJ Thomas gave generously of his time at local schools and in the neighborhood by providing free haircuts to young people in need, helping them to feel confident in their appearance and prepared to succeed; and
WHEREAS, DJ Thomas was a mentor and role model to the many children he served, each of whom will carry forward his legacy as a leader of change and force for good in the world; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by his daughter, Londyn, DJ Thomas will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his mother, Amy; his father, Jamanzeo; his sister, Brittany; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Devon Jamye Thomas, a treasured member of the Hopewell community whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Devon Jamye Thomas as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
