Commending the Hopewell High School girls' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Hopewell High School girls' basketball team won the Virginia High School League Region 3A championship on February 27, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Hopewell High School Blue Devils defeated the Lake Taylor High School Titans of Norfolk by a score of 53–44 to secure the regional championship title; and
WHEREAS, the Hopewell High School Blue Devils were led throughout the season by April Winfield, who was named Virginia High School League (VHSL) Region 3A Player of the Year and selected for the Richmond All-Metro Girls Basketball Team, and Makenzie Preston, who was named to the VHSL Region 3A First Team and earned honorable mention for the Richmond All-Metro Girls Basketball Team; and
WHEREAS, the Hopewell Blue Devils were guided to greatness under the leadership of their coach, Jackie Edmonds, whose efforts were recognized with VHSL Region 3A Coach of the Year honors; and
WHEREAS, the Hopewell High School Blue Devils benefitted from the contributions of every member of the team, including Dionne Morris, who received a VHSL Region 3A honorable mention; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Hopewell High School Blue Devils are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Hopewell High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Hopewell High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Region 3A championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jackie Edmonds, coach of the Hopewell High School girls' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
