Celebrating the life of Ernestine Inez Epps Shaw.

WHEREAS, Ernestine Inez Epps Shaw, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and esteemed member of the Hopewell community, died on March 31, 2026, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and joy; and
WHEREAS, Ernestine Shaw graduated from the former J.E.J. Moore High School in Prince George County before embarking upon a successful career in the service industry; and
WHEREAS, after working first in Trenton, New Jersey, Ernestine Shaw later returned to the Commonwealth and supported a number of distinguished organizations and companies over the years, including the Prince George Country Club, Hewlett-Packard, and Reynolds Aluminum; and
WHEREAS, for 16 years, Ernestine Shaw worked tirelessly to care for and nourish the young people of Hopewell as a food services professional with Hopewell City Public Schools, endearing herself to countless students and families; and
WHEREAS, Ernestine Shaw was the consummate host and friend who embraced every opportunity to cook, fish, bowl, dance, care for the elderly, and, above all else, make cherished memories with family and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Ernestine Shaw gave generously of her time to her community as a faithful member of the Radiant Temple #1200 of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of the World, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Ernestine Shaw was guided throughout her life by her Christian faith and was a longtime devoted member of Mount Hope Baptist Church in Prince George County; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by her loving husband, Stanley, Ernestine Shaw will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her children, Yvette and Johnise, and their families and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ernestine Inez Epps Shaw, a treasured member of the Hopewell community whose kindness and generosity will forever inspire all who knew her; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ernestine Inez Epps Shaw as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
