Commending Khalil Murdock.

WHEREAS, Khalil Murdock, a gifted linebacker and son of Hopewell, was selected in the 7th round of the 2026 National Football League by the Denver Broncos on April 25, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Khalil “Red” Murdock graduated from Hopewell High School, where he led the football team to a state championship and earned Virginia High School League Region 3A Defensive Player of the Year honors; and

WHEREAS, despite not receiving any Division I scholarship offers out of high school, Red Murdock kept his football dreams alive by playing a post-graduate season with the Fork Union Military Academy, leading the team to a perfect 8–0 season; and

WHEREAS, Red Murdock's success at Fork Union led to a spot on the University of Buffalo football team, where he quickly became an integral part of the team's defense; and

WHEREAS, Red Murdock finished the 2024 season ranked second in the nation in tackles with 156 and first in the nation with seven forced fumbles, which set a University of Buffalo record and garnered First Team All-Mid American Conference honors; and

WHEREAS, in his next and final year with the University of Buffalo, Red Murdock again ranked second in the nation in tackles with 142 while bringing his career forced fumble tally to 17, which set a National Collegiate Athletic Association record; and

WHEREAS, Red Murdock was pivotal to the University of Buffalo's victory over Liberty University in the 2025 Bahamas Bowl, recording 13 tackles, an interception, and a touchdown, and was named the game's Defensive Player of the Game; and

WHEREAS, Red Murdock has excelled both on the gridiron and in the classroom, completing an associate's degree at Brightpoint Community College via a dual enrollment program during high school and graduating magna cum laude from the University of Buffalo in May 2024 with a degree in psychology; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his football pursuits, Red Murdock is pursuing a master's degree in education studies and is making an impact in the community through the tutoring organization 804 Homework Helpers that he founded and directs; and

WHEREAS, Red Murdock has brought great pride to the Commonwealth through his accomplishments as an athlete, scholar, and community leader and shows great promise to shine on football's highest stage; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Khalil Murdock of Hopewell hereby be commended upon being drafted into the National Football League; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Khalil Murdock as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for his achievements and best wishes for his continued success.
