Celebrating the life of Charles Morris Hileman.

WHEREAS, Charles Morris Hileman, a highly admired resident of Rockbridge County who touched countless lives through his legacy of professional achievements and commitment to service, died on April 6, 2026; and

WHEREAS, born in Lexington, Charles “Charlie” Hileman lived most of his life on his family farm in Rockbridge County, developing a strong work ethic, a passion for the community, and a wide range of skill sets that defined his varied career; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Rockbridge High School and earning an associate degree from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, now Mountain Gateway Community College, Charlie Hileman briefly worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard but ultimately returned to the Shenandoah Valley to raise a family with his wife of 49 years, Darlene; and

WHEREAS, Charlie and Darlene Hileman built and managed numerous successful businesses over the years, most notably the Hileman Tire Company, where countless local residents, students, and tourists were inspired by Charlie's mantra: “Take care of your car, and it'll take care of you.”; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Hileman finished his career in real estate, having earned admiration from peers and colleagues for his comprehensive knowledge of the land in Rockbridge County, a testament to his deep roots and lifelong dedication to serving the community; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Hileman enjoyed hunting, fishing, and any opportunity to spend time in the great outdoors; he was also a champion for agriculture in Rockbridge County and proudly took part in many 4-H and Future Farmers of America activities with his children; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Hileman will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife, Darlene; his children, Zack and Carrie, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charles Morris Hileman, a pillar of the Rockbridge County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles Morris Hileman as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
