HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2024

Commending Tamika Singletary-Johnson, Ed.D.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 23, 2026

WHEREAS, Tamika Singletary-Johnson, Ed.D., an esteemed education administrator and principal of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, has helped countless students fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams; and

WHEREAS, Tamika Singletary-Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in middle grades education from Fayetteville State University, a master's degree in school administration from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and a doctor of education degree in educational leadership from Gardner-Webb University, and also graduated from the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program in preparation for her career; and

WHEREAS, Tamika Singletary-Johnson has been an education administrator for more than 16 years, including 12 years as a principal at the elementary and secondary levels; she is notably the first African American to serve as principal of Virginia Beach's Kempsville High School, Larkspur Middle School, Salem Middle School, and Tallwood Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Tamika Singletary-Johnson has demonstrated an ability to transform a school's culture and to promote a learning environment that is conducive to nurturing students' academic, social, and emotional well-being; and

WHEREAS, several schools have earned prestigious distinctions under Tamika Singletary-Johnson's leadership, and her efforts have been recognized through a number of awards, including Virginia Beach Secondary Instructional Leader of the Year in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Tamika Singletary-Johnson has gone beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the lives of young people, founding the Boys II Men mentoring program while also spearheading the development of positive behavioral intervention and supports programs; and

WHEREAS, Tamika Singletary-Johnson makes an impact in the community beyond her school's walls as an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and through her regular involvement with organizations such as the Girls Scouts of the USA and the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program; and

WHEREAS, Tamika Singletary-Johnson has advanced education in Virginia Beach by serving on several district-level committees and has supported her fellow educators by presenting at leadership conferences on equity, instructional improvement, and data-informed practices; and

WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the students and families she serves and the faculty she leads, Tamika Singletary-Johnson has exemplified the ideals of the education profession, earning the respect and recognition of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Tamika Singletary-Johnson, Ed.D., hereby be commended for her legacy of service as an education administrator and community leader; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tamika Singletary-Johnson, Ed.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
