WHEREAS, Jeffrey A. Katz, host of The Jeff Katz Radio Show, has honored and celebrated the courage and sacrifice of law-enforcement officers in Central Virginia through his Lieutenant Jan McTernan Blue Friday honors program, which marks its 10th anniversary in April 2026; and
WHEREAS, a former police officer, Jeffrey “Jeff” A. Katz has hosted radio shows in Boston, Charlotte, Philadelphia, and San Francisco and has been with WRVA in Richmond since December 2, 2013; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, Jeff Katz founded the Lieutenant Jan McTernan Blue Friday honors program to pay tribute to the late officer's memory and legacy, starting a radio program dedicated to recognizing local police officers and their good deeds in service to the community; and
WHEREAS, each month during the Blue Friday program, Jeff Katz features a law-enforcement officer from Central Virginia and highlights their noteworthy efforts to make a positive and lasting impact in the communities they protect and serve; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his popularity with listeners, The Jeff Katz Radio Show was voted the Best Afternoon Radio Show by readers of The Richmond Times-Dispatch in 2020; he was also presented the President's Volunteer Service Award by President Donald J. Trump, as well as the Director's Community Leadership Award by Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray in 2019; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Katz's tireless advocacy and commitment to honoring law enforcement has been a source of strength for many throughout the Commonwealth, exemplifying the respect and esteem that Virginians have for the police officers who bravely risk their lives every day for the safety and well-being of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Jeffrey A. Katz hereby be commended for his legacy of service on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Lieutenant Jan McTernan Blue Friday honors program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeffrey A. Katz as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his support of law enforcement in Central Virginia and throughout the Commonwealth.
