Commending the Clarke County High School girls' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School girls' basketball team won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship on March 13, 2026, at Virginia Commonwealth University's Stuart C. Siegel Center in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School Eagles defeated the Union High School Bears of Wise County by a score of 67–56 to bring home the program's second state championship title in four seasons; and
WHEREAS, despite trailing early with a score of 14–20, the Clarke County Eagles regained their form to take a 26–25 lead into halftime, then cruised to a double digit advantage in the second half; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles' victory was a total team effort, led by Alainah McKavish, who claimed Clarke County High School's career scoring record of 2,215 points and her second state championship title after posting a team high 22 points in the contest; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles also benefited from the stellar play of Paige McKavish, who had 13 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals; Paige Stemberger, who had 13 points and 14 rebounds; and Savannah McCaw, who had 12 points and six rebounds; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Clarke County Eagles are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Clarke County High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Clarke County High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Shad McCaw, coach of the Clarke County High School girls' basketball team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
