Commending the Abingdon High School girls' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Abingdon High School girls' basketball team won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship at Virginia Commonwealth University's Stuart C. Siegel Center in Richmond on March 14, 2026; and

WHEREAS, the Abingdon High School Falcons defeated the Skyline High School Hawks of Front Royal by a score of 58–38 to bring home the program's first state championship title; and

WHEREAS, the Abingdon Falcons showed remarkable strength and poise throughout the match, outrebounding their opponent 53–37 and holding them scoreless for the last eight minutes of play; and

WHEREAS, the Abingdon Falcons' victory was a total team effort, led by senior Annsley “A.J.” Trivette, who tallied 25 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals in the contest; and

WHEREAS, despite finishing the regular season as the fourth-place team in their district and competing as the fourth seed in the Virginia High School League Region 3D tournament, the Abingdon Falcons found their form, closing the year with six consecutive wins to post an impressive 22–8 record and secure the state championship title; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Abingdon Falcons are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Abingdon High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Abingdon High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jimmy Brown, coach of the Abingdon High School girls' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
