Commending Thomas Louis Jones III.

WHEREAS, Thomas Louis Jones III, an acclaimed musician more commonly known by his stage name, Big Pooh, has brought great pride to the Commonwealth over his long and distinguished career as an artist; and

WHEREAS, a Northern Virginia native, Big Pooh cultivated an early interest and appreciation for hip-hop music and culture while a student at South Lakes High School in Reston; and

WHEREAS, Big Pooh attended North Carolina Central University, where he met fellow students and artists 9th Wonder and Phonte, and they formed the hip-hop trio Little Brother in 2000, which quickly achieved national acclaim and developed a loyal fan base; and

WHEREAS, Big Pooh's Little Brother signed a major label deal with Atlantic Records and saw several of its albums ranked on the Billboard charts; and

WHEREAS, during Little Brother's ascent, Big Pooh also released solo material, starting with his debut album Sleepers in 2005, which was followed by other solo albums, including Dirty Pretty Things, Fat Boy Fresh, Words Paint Pictures, RPM, and To Dream in Color; and

WHEREAS, Big Pooh has regularly collaborated with some of hip-hop's biggest names and its most respected independent artists, while also supporting up-and-coming musicians as a manager and mentor; and

WHEREAS, with a musical career defined by longevity, consistency, and artistic integrity, Big Pooh has earned the praise and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Thomas Louis Jones III, also known as Big Pooh, hereby be commended for his success as a hip-hop artist and for his impact on the music industry; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas Louis Jones III as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to hip-hop music and culture in the Commonwealth and beyond.
