Celebrating the life of James Ransom Jackson, Jr.

WHEREAS, James Ransom Jackson, Jr., a respected builder, real estate professional, and community leader in Chesapeake, died on March 24, 2026; and
WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” Ransom Jackson, Jr., was born in Dunn, North Carolina, and grew up in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, where he developed a deep, lifelong connection to the community; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson began his career as a lineman and later served as a supervisor with Virginia Power, now part of Dominion Energy, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to leadership; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson was a respected builder for many years, contributing to the growth and character of Chesapeake through his craftsmanship and commitment to quality; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson later continued his service to the community as a realtor for more than 20 years, helping families find homes and guiding clients through one of life's most important decisions; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson served as president of the Tidewater Builders Association and as a member of the board of the Hampton Roads Realtors Association, demonstrating leadership and a deep commitment to the building and real estate industries across the region; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson was an engaged and informed participant in local government, frequently appearing before the Chesapeake City Council to share his perspective on real estate, development, and issues affecting the future of the community; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson was a co-founder of the Hampton Roads Realtors Association Candidate Institute, where he helped educate and prepare individuals for public service and encouraged greater civic participation; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson further served the community through his involvement with the Chesapeake Task Force on Aging, supporting efforts to enhance the quality of life of senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, known for his wit, candor, and generosity, Jimmy Jackson earned the respect of colleagues, public officials, and friends, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him; his legacy endures in the community he helped build, the industries he helped strengthen, and the many lives he influenced through his leadership and service; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Jean, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Ransom Jackson, Jr., a highly admired resident of Chesapeake who made countless contributions to the community and to the Commonwealth as a whole; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Ransom Jackson, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
