Commending Cinema Cafe.

WHEREAS, Cinema Cafe, a beloved movie theater company serving the communities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Chesterfield County, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026; and

WHEREAS, Cinema Cafe opened in a twin-plex theater in the Pembroke Meadows shopping center in Virginia Beach in 1986 as a franchise of Cinema ‘N' Drafthouse, a Florida-based company that created a unique theatergoing experience by serving food and beer while screening discounted second-run movies; and

WHEREAS, in the 1990s, the theater's owners secured their independence from the Cinema ‘N' Drafthouse franchise and rebranded as Cinema Cafe, embracing a more family-friendly and community-oriented business model; and

WHEREAS, as a testament to Cinema Cafe's success, the company has expanded over the years and today comprises two locations in Virginia Beach, two in Chesapeake, and one in Chesterfield County; and

WHEREAS, Cinema Cafe has continually upgraded and enhanced its amenities and services, including by transitioning to digital projection and sound, to provide its customers with an exceptional and memorable theatergoing experience; and

WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to quality, affordability, and service, Cinema Cafe has endeared itself to its patrons and become a cherished institution in the communities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Chesterfield County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Cinema Cafe hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the owners of Cinema Cafe as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the business's contributions to the Commonwealth.
