WHEREAS, Merrill Morgan, the distinguished head baseball coach at Virginia State University, has reached a remarkable milestone by earning his 400th career collegiate coaching victory; and

WHEREAS, the 2026 season marks the 23rd season for Merrill Morgan at the helm of the Virginia State University Trojans baseball program, reflecting his enduring commitment and stability in leadership; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Morgan has led the Virginia State University Trojans baseball program with integrity, discipline, and a steadfast commitment to excellence, developing not only competitive teams but also well-rounded student-athletes; and

WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Merrill Morgan has built a culture rooted in accountability, perseverance, and academic achievement, ensuring that his players succeed both on the field and in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Morgan's leadership has elevated the visibility and competitiveness of the Virginia State University baseball program within its conference and across collegiate athletics, bringing pride to the university and the surrounding community; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Morgan's 400th win, achieved during the 2026 season, stands as a testament to years of dedication, mentorship, and an unwavering passion for the game of baseball; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Merrill Morgan has demonstrated consistency and excellence in a demanding profession, earning recognition as Coach of the Year multiple times, further underscoring his impact and leadership in collegiate athletics; and

WHEREAS, beyond the diamond, Merrill Morgan has served as a mentor and role model to countless young men, instilling values of teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility that extend far beyond athletics; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Morgan's accomplishments reflect positively on Virginia State University and the Commonwealth, inspiring future generations of student-athletes and coaches alike; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Merrill Morgan hereby be commended for achieving his 400th career coaching victory and for his outstanding contributions to collegiate athletics and student development; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Merrill Morgan as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements and best wishes for his continued success.
