Commending Teresa Jackson Walker-Price.

WHEREAS, Teresa Jackson Walker-Price, an esteemed educator, advocate, and community leader and lifelong resident of Charlottesville, celebrated her 100th birthday in 2025; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Jackson Walker-Price played a pivotal role in the growth and development of the Starr Hill neighborhood in Charlottesville by effectively advocating for residents after the neighborhood was selected for a federal Community Development Block Grant in the 1970s; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Jackson Walker-Price taught in Charlottesville at the former Lane High School during the period of integration and later worked as the librarian at Clark School, and she was always an abundant source of comfort, wisdom, and encouragement for her students; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Jackson Walker-Price generously opened her home to Black students at the University of Virginia during its early years of integration, giving them a greater sense of community and belonging and the strength to overcome the challenges they faced; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Jackson Walker-Price was instrumental in the preservation of the historic Jefferson School and Carver Recreation Center in Charlottesville, which remain beloved institutions of education and culture in the community to this day; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Jackson Walker-Price's lifetime of service and commitment to her community has been recognized with the Reflector Award from the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Award; and

WHEREAS, the 100th anniversary of Teresa Jackson Walker-Price's birth provides an opportune time to reflect upon the many ways in which her leadership, courage, and compassion have transformed countless lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Teresa Jackson Walker-Price for her legacy of service on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Teresa Jackson Walker-Price as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to Charlottesville and the Commonwealth.
