HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 225
Commending Family Service of Roanoke Valley.

WHEREAS, Family Service of Roanoke Valley, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families as they journey toward lives of emotional wellness, healthy relationships, and futures filled with hope, celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2026; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1901 as the Charity Organization Society, when it was notably the first human service agency in Roanoke, Family Service of Roanoke Valley existed under several other names before assuming its current name in 1985; and
WHEREAS, today, Family Service of Roanoke Valley serves more than 2,350 families annually through its eight program divisions and provides a range of services to meet the diverse needs of its clientele, including community counseling, individual therapy, play therapy, and child-parent relationship therapy; and
WHEREAS, Family Service of Roanoke Valley operates a guardianship program that provides essential services to more than 100 individuals who have been legally determined incapacitated, establishing a vital safety net for vulnerable members of the community; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Family Service of Roanoke Valley are the result of the visionary leadership of its board, the care and expertise of its counselors, the tireless efforts of its volunteers, and the generous support of its individual and corporate donors; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to supporting the mental health and well-being of the individuals and families it serves, Family Service of Roanoke Valley has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Family Service of Roanoke Valley on the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Family Service of Roanoke Valley as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Roanoke Valley and the Commonwealth.
