HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 209

Commending the Community Foundation.

WHEREAS, in 2025, the Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization that manages and distributes charitable giving in the Rappahannock River region, provided thousands of dollars of educator-focused grants to support critical investments in classrooms, literacy programs, employment opportunities, and student support services in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County; and

WHEREAS, the Community Foundation's work is possible through generous donations from individuals, families, local businesses, corporate partners, and other community organizations; and

WHEREAS, the Community Foundation's educator grants empower teachers, librarians, coaches, and school leaders to enrich the learning experience and foster student success, reflecting the idea that students thrive when educators receive the proper resources; and

WHEREAS, grants from the Community Foundation supported the QUEST Program at John J. Wright Educational and Cultural Center, which helps nontraditional students finish their high school diplomas or obtain a GED, and professional development for QUEST staff members; and

WHEREAS, the Community Foundation's grants supported math and reading programs at Lafayette Elementary School, Spanish language and culture classes and athletics programs at Walker-Grant Middle School, and library collection development at James Monroe High School; and

WHEREAS, the Community Foundation's grants also supported the Garden Sprouts preschool program in Fredericksburg and an audiobook collection for students at Hugh Mercer Elementary School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Community Foundation for helping to give educators the tools and training they need to support their students through its generous grant programs; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Community Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's legacy of contributions to students in the Rappahannock River region.
