HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 160

Commending Renee Bergmann Andrews.

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews retired in 2025 from her position as secretary of the Falls Church Electoral Board after 27 years of dedicated service to the administration of elections in the City of Falls Church; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews joined the City of Falls Church as an officer of election in 1998, quickly became assistant chief officer and then chief officer, and, in 2003, was appointed to the Falls Church Electoral Board, where she served for more than 22 years, including as chair, vice chair, and secretary; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews' accomplishments with the Falls Church Electoral Board included guiding the transition of city elections from May to November, leading the consolidation of voting wards from five to three, and twice overseeing the acquisition and implementation of new voting equipment; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews spearheaded the creation of the City of Falls Church's high school page program and consistently championed recruitment, bipartisan balance, and high-quality training for officers of election; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews' leadership extended statewide through the Virginia Electoral Board Association, where she served in various leadership roles, and nationally, as she represented the Commonwealth on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission's Standards Board from 2009 to 2014; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews has been deeply engaged in strengthening election administration by serving on the State Board of Election's General Registrar/Electoral Board Workgroup, contributing to updates of the State Board of Elections' Statement of Results and the Commonwealth's Help America Vote Act plan, and supporting a number of statewide training programs; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews' long-standing involvement in civic organizations, including the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Election Officials Technical Committee, the Falls Church City Democratic Committee, and the League of Women Voters, reflects her broader commitment to public service; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her leadership and legacy of service, Renee Bergmann Andrews received a Making Democracy Work Award from the League of Women Voters in 2014 and the inaugural Community Impact Award in 2025; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Renee Bergmann Andrews has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the democratic process and election integrity in the City of Falls Church, the Commonwealth, and throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, Renee Bergmann Andrews has been a steadfast advocate for fair, secure, transparent, and well-run elections, and her attention to detail, integrity, and dedication to voters and election workers alike have left a lasting mark on the City of Falls Church and beyond; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Renee Bergmann Andrews as she concludes her service on the Falls Church Electoral Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Renee Bergmann Andrews as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to Falls Church and the Commonwealth.
