HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 136
Celebrating the life of John Victor Mazza, Jr.

WHEREAS, John Victor Mazza, Jr., an accomplished businessman who was the longtime owner of Medallion Pools in Colonial Heights, a distinguished aviator, and a beloved member of the Chesterfield County community, died on October 25, 2025; and
WHEREAS, John “Johnny” Victor Mazza, Jr., began working alongside his father at his business, Medallion Pools, when he was eight years old and joined the business full-time in 1974 after graduating from Prince George High School, attending East Carolina University and Virginia State University, and earning a bachelor's degree in business administration; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Mazza helped Medallion Pools develop a number of innovations in pool manufacturing while continuing to consistently grow and expand; he ultimately assumed ownership of the business, with his son, Johnny III, working alongside him as he had with his father; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Mazza supported his industry in various leadership capacities with what is today the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals, including as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Mazza's passion in life was flying, and he advanced aviation in the Commonwealth through his involvement with several organizations, including the Virginia Aviation Board, the Capital Region Airport Commission, the Dinwiddie County Airport and Industrial Authority, the Chesterfield County Airport Advisory Board, the Virginia Transportation Safety Board, the Virginia Aviation Foundation, and the Virginia Airport Owners Association; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Mazza promoted a greater understanding of aviation safety as a pilot safety officer with the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach and as a regular on-air aviation safety expert for a local news broadcast station; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his efforts as an educator, advocate, and leader of the aviation community, Johnny Mazza was inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Mazza gave generously of his time for the benefit of his community as a member of the Crater Planning District Commission, the Chesterfield County School Health Advisory Board, and the Richard Bland College Foundation board of directors; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Mazza will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria; his son and best friend, Johnny III; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of John Victor Mazza, Jr., an esteemed businessman and pillar of the Virginia aviation community whose leadership, dedication, and service made an impact on countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Victor Mazza, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
