SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 290

Commending the Riverside High School girls' lacrosse team.

WHEREAS, the Riverside High School girls' lacrosse team of Loudoun County won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship on June 14, 2025, at Godwin High School in Henrico County; and

WHEREAS, the Riverside High School Rams defeated the Douglas S. Freeman High School Mavericks by a score of 8–6 to bring home the program's first state championship title since 2018; and

WHEREAS, after trailing by four goals late in the third quarter, the Riverside Rams scored six unanswered goals in rapid succession to mount an astonishing comeback and stun the Freeman Mavericks, who had won the past four state championships; and

WHEREAS, the Riverside Rams were led to victory by Kate Broad, who had four goals, including three in the decisive fourth quarter, as well as Sam Wiles, Alex Sutch, and Erika Trippel, who also scored goals during the contest; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Riverside Rams are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Riverside High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Riverside High School girls' lacrosse team for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kristan Ash, coach of the Riverside High School girls' lacrosse team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
