SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 261

Commending the Lightridge High School scholastic bowl team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 12, 2026

WHEREAS, the Lightridge High School scholastic bowl team of Loudoun County won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship on February 28, 2026; and

WHEREAS, the Lightridge High School Lightning Bolts tallied 840 points to top the runner-up Ocean Lakes High School Dolphins of Virginia Beach by 165 points; and

WHEREAS, at the state tournament, the Lightridge High School scholastic bowl team soundly defeated all three of its opponents to become state champions; and

WHEREAS, the Lightridge Lighting Bolts' victory was a total team effort, led by Janani Gollapalli, who had 440 points in the competition and was named to the Virginia High School League All-State scholastic bowl team; and

WHEREAS, the Lightridge High School scholastic bowl team's victorious campaign was a testament to the skill and talents of all the competitors, the leadership of their coaches and advisors, and the support of their families and the entire Lightridge High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lightridge High School scholastic bowl team for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Lightridge High School scholastic bowl team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
